Multi-Needs Programs

NDSEC utilizes a trans-disciplinary team model throughout its Multi-Needs programs.

  Trans-Disciplinary Teams

The Trans-Disciplinary Team Model is the foundation for staff collaboration that targets    maximizing student learning in all major life domains.  The curriculum has been designed    to facilitate each student's growth via, community, recreation/leisure, vocational,    academic, life arts, self-awareness, and interpersonal relationship opportunities in natural,    school, and community based activities.

Each classroom teacher is responsible for coordination of services for students within    their program.  Within each classroom, related services staff (speech-language    pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, vocational specialist, school    social workers, school nurses, school psychologists) provide direct, integrated, or    consultative supports as defined in each student's Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.).     Direct services are provided in a 1:1 or small group setting.  Integrated services are    provided via incorporating a student's therapy services into the overall curriculum activity    and is delivered in large group, general education, or community settings.

  Integration

All students who receive educational services through NDSEC's Multi-Needs programs    are integrated into general education classrooms/programs whenever the I.E.P. team    finds it to be beneficial to the student.  Adaptation, modifications, and needed supports    are provided by members of the trans-disciplinary team and general education faculty in    all environments where student instruction takes place.

  Vocational Program

The vocational program for multi-needs students encompasses both prevocational and    vocational skill areas.  It is structured to focus on assisting students in recognizing and    enhancing their strengths in all aspects of vocational and transitional areas.  Students may    participate in in-school vocational training, vocational training in the community with job    coaching, vocational training in the community with job coach monitoring and employer    paid work experience.

NDSEC in partnership with the Office of Rehabilitation Services involves local    employers in developing vocational training programs to assist in pre-employment and    employment opportunities.  Individual placements are accomplished with input from the    student, parents, classroom teacher, vocational teacher, and employers.  Students    participate in vocational training during the school day, however, some employer paid    work experience is performed after school hours.
